Murphy's is overcharging customers hundreds for parts... If you have a warranty, as I do, forget about your deductible, because they will charge you hundreds upon hundreds more.

Cheif complaint: After reviewing the charges on my invoice from Murphy's with my warranty company, we've found that they are charging nearly double the cost of a part in order to make a profit and that's AFTER my warranty paid for the part itself AND paid full cost for their labor.
For example, the A/C compressor went out on my car (which they somehow missed the first time my A/C wasn't working earlier this month) and they said on the invoice that the AC compressor unit costs $772.50 plus labor which was an additional $265.00.

My warranty covered $441.00 for the compressor which is MSRP value, AND I verified with **** Chevrolett (where Murphy's buys their parts) and they confirmed that this part for my vehicle costs $441.00, so the part was covered, they didn't lose any money buying the part, shops typically pay less than MSRP value from the dealerships, so they profit there, AND my warranty covered labor at THEIR labor rate.. which again was $265.00 in profit as well, but on my invoice they charged me $772.50 for 1 unit.
When I asked what the $331.00 discrepancy for the cost of the part was, their store manager Ryan claimed the $331.00 covered the warranty on the part should it break down in the future... So, Murphy's has you pay for the part nearly two times over, and then says that nearly double overcharge... is actually just a warranty?? Can I just skip the warranty and pay for the part outright should it ever break down again in the future?? Apparently not.

When I spoke with their owner Bryan Murphy, he says that this is just what businesses do to make a profit...

And look, I'm not an unreasonable customer, I understand that at the end of the day businesses are there to make money... I could understand charging a bit more because you went through the hassle of dialing a phone number and ordering the part to your shop... but $331.00 more? I'm nearly paying for TWO A/C Compressors... that just doesn't add up. After talking to several dealerships to get an idea of the prevelancy of this "business model" they have stated that it IS common practice to overcharge for a unit since you're going through the hassle of purchasing and then shipping it... but nearly double the cost of the unit itself? So far nobody has been able to explain that kind of a markup... except for Bryan Murphy himself... who says "This is how we make a profit and run a business."

So, to that I might add that this has been our fourth trip to Murphy's in the last month. We've paid over $2,000 out of pocket, when my warranty states that I should only be charged a $200.00 deductible... Each time we've paid hundreds and hundreds more that that... I will add that my warranty is excellent and they have paid out a couple thousand as well to fix these issues... issues that we had to go back for each time because they weren't noticed and thusly not fixed upon the first diagnostic tests... One of these visits, I picked up my vehicle only to have to drop it back off to Murphy's not three hours later. You just can't make this kind of stuff up...

So, if you're paying nearly double the cost for what you would hope is excellent service, only to have to take your vehicle back multiple times to get the problems they missed taken care of... then I'd say for overpaying, by a lot, then you're definitely not getting what you pay for at Murphy's Autocare.
