I am a patient of Surgical Dermatology Group in *******, AL. I called to make an appointment back in January. I was told my previous doctor had retired and was asked if I'd like an appointment with one of the two new doctors. I told them that would be fine as long as they accepted my insurance, ******* ******. I was told one of the new doctors accepted ******* ****** and an appointment was made for me to see him on February 7, 2022. I went to my appointment and everything went well. When my bill came in March, I noticed it was $***; far greater than my usual copay amount of $** for a specialist. I called the number listed to ask why my bill was so much and spoke with a woman in the billing department. She explained to me that the doctor I had seen did not accept ******* ******. I explained to her that when my appointment was made I had been told that he did. She told me that under those circumstances I should not have to pay $*** as they had made a mistake when scheduling my appointment, and that she would speak to her manager and call me back. She told me I would need to cancel my follow-on appointment later that week as neither of the doctors working in the ******* location accepted ******* ******. When I didn't receive a call back from her as promised, I assumed the issue had been cleared up. Then I received a second bill for the same amount. I called the billing department again and this time the woman I spoke with told me that I would need to pay the full amount because it was my responsibility to make sure my doctor accepted ******* ******, even though the scheduler told me he did. I asked to speak to her manager. The manger did not answer so I left a message. My call was never returned. I find it ridiculous and unacceptable that this company is not taking responsibility for their mistake. The medical issue I was originally seeking treatment for is ongoing. I now have to start over with another dermatologist - one that actually takes ******* ******.
