BBB’s Online Interest-Based Advertising Accountability Program ensures that you know when a business collects and uses your consumer data for online ads and that you can opt-out of receiving targeted ads.
Your Rights as a Consumer
You should have notice that an ad is targeted to you because of your interests. Such notice may include the display of this icon in or near the ad or on the web page where information is being collected.
You should be able to click on the icon (or statement about the ad) to learn more about businesses involved. That page should provide a link to where you are provided with a choice about whether to receive online behavioral advertisements. You will be able to opt-out of receiving further targeted ads from the businesses involved. The link may also take you to an industry-created website, where you have further opt-out choices.
File a Report
If you believe that you have received a targeted ad that does not provide you with the notice and/or choice to opt-out and wish to report it to the BBB’s Accountability Program, please begin by clicking on the button below.
Please note: The form on the following page is designed to report only potential violations of notice and choice about targeted advertising.
