Marketing Manager

The Council of Better Business Bureaus is seeking a seasoned professional to join our marketing team in our Arlington, VA office for the hands on position of Marketing Manager. We seek both a thinker and a “doer” for this mid level role, someone who can perform on both a strategic and operational level in the development and execution of a strategic Council-wide marketing plan in conjunction with the Senior Vice President responsible for the marketing function with the aim of increasing revenue for the Council.

Duties will include:

Marketing plan

Working with the SVP and key BBB leaders, design, implement, and facilitate annual marketing plan for CBBB.

Support and facilitate development and implementation of department marketing plans including the Institute, ASRC and WGA.

Translate business objectives and strategies to develop brand portfolio objectives, strategies and plans to facilitate business growth.

Develop marketing strategy, based on knowledge of CBBB policy, nature of market, copyright and royalty requirements, and cost and markup factors.


In conjunction with the SVP, plan and administer the organizations Marketing Operations budget.

Support development of ancillary marketing budgets.

Provide regular budget and other marketing performance reports to CBBB senior team and Board committees as appropriate.

Manage marketing suppliers

Negotiate and manage vendors and consultants providing marketing related services to CBBB.

Collaborate on business development activities

Perform as part of the business development team reporting to the Senior Vice President, Enterprise.

Offer coaching for prospective client meetings, presentations, etc.

Work with BBBs on designing and implementing prospecting and client contact systems.

Management functions

Provide direction to Marketing Specialist, marketing interns and marketing consultants.

Work with appropriate marketing related committees of the Board and develop a comprehensive understanding of policy and procedure as it relates to the staff/board marketing relationship.

Oversee development and administration of marketing database

Includes client and prospect information, mailing list applications, access to financial reports, etc.

Our ideal candidate:

Will have a strong understanding of marketing/public relations strategies and execution; be facile with traditional and new media, have experience with new media and internet advertising, will be detail-oriented with the ability to manage projects from inception through execution, possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, have the ability to set priorities and be flexible in changing environment, be entrepreneurial, be a self-starter with hands-on approach, a creative and strategic thinker who finds innovative ways to meet goals, a multi-taker: have strength in managing multiple projects, deadlines, initiatives with a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other departments/teams and be customer service focused.

A Bachelor's degree in marketing or related field, MBA or MS in marketing is preferred. 3-5 years experiences at marketing manager level or above, including supervisory experience. Minimum 7 years marketing experience, preferably with an association or other not for profit organization.
