Been banking with Webster close to 20 years. Always received great service. Since recent merger all aspects of banking have tanked. I now avoid at all costs any contact with bank. Everything has become overly complex and just difficult to navigate. Takes 13 minutes just to enter all info then repeat again once associates on phone - that's w/o any hold When going into local branches seems they never can be of help to resolve account issues, just provide phone #s to call. More than one I received aren't even active or associated with the bank. time.Tech issues have become commonplace. Rather than going through 30-40 minutes verification process then not receiving any resolution now just wait till following day in hope problem solved. Already have closed all CC accounts and in process of doing same with checking and savings. First need decide on new bank. Advise banking with Webster at all costs, it's become a nightmare.Review from Richard A

I have been a customer of Webster Investments for almost 20 years. My investment rep. Mike Goncalves has cost me many thousands of dollars by placing a large sum of money in a R.E.I.T. which is bleeding cash and there is no way I can get out of it. I fear this investment through LPL will dwindle down to nothing. He has not returned my recent phone calls. AVOID this guy at all cost!!Review from Michael S

Webster/Brio will massively tie up your funds and charge you high fees for it. Once they show ACH transfers inbound clear and funds available, if you try transferring any funds out, there are additional holds placed on the originally cleared funds, as well as the transfer holds, making your available balance negative. Then transfers will fail due to lacking "available" funds, which were available at the time of transfer. Each fee for this is $35 and they do retry failed transfers without checking if the funds are currently "available". Then they will likely flag your account, request additional verification documents, and the account will be suspended for who knows how long until they get around to processing these documents. There seems to be good potential for a class action lawsuit against this bank - Brio/Webster.Review from Marley W

Wow I cannot express the level of frustration and annoyance this bank provokes. For the second time I was yanked around no one to speak to other than a poor customer service representative. Thanks Jonathan for not hanging upon me like Carolina did. Anyone acting as a supervisor should be ashamed. No one ever attempts to assist with the real complaints Never available to get on the phone. No one cares when it isn't their hard earned money. Thankfully this time was the last straw. Enjoy my money any other bank on the planet. Bye WebsterReview from Jessica T

A warning for anyone thinking of using **** Direct, a division or subsidiary of Webster Bank, for their online banking needs. I can't begin to tell you the hoops you will jump through just to open and transfer money into a savings account. After you deposit your money, it may - or may not - actually get there, leaving you to wonder what have they done with YOUR money. For weeks now, I have had thousands of dollars MIA with **** - and no one can answer any questions, like where is it and why. I have been on the phone and exchanged emails with at least half a dozen people. With me, they requested ADDITIONAL verification of my checking account, which I've had for 25 years with a large national bank. I supplied the additional verification. For some reason, they didn't like that bank and canceled any future transactions I could make with my bank/checking account - which is the account I would be using to transfer money to ****. I have requested my money and to close the account - they said they may not be able to do this for another 2-3 weeks!!!!! Just let me out!Review from MILLICENT B

January 3, 2024 I went into the Webster Bank in ******** *** this morning. I am not a customer, however I have lived in ******* since 1975 and has stopped into this branch throughout the years and nothing has ever changed. I would never open an account at that branch because the people there are so unfriendly and I am never, ever treated with respect or as a potential customer. They all look up, stare and wonder what I am doing there. I went in to purchase a money order and was told my William H****** that Webster Bank does not sell money orders because of money laundering. He told me I could purchase a Cashiers check only if I had an account. I told him I would open an account and he responded It would be a waste of my time. I asked who's time, I had all day. He responded have a good day! Please send a person of color from Webster Bank, in a management position into that branch and see how they are treated. Does Webster have diversity training??? I am always disappointed when I leave that branch. I am a senior citizen and live two minutes away, that location would be so convenient. I emailed the person that is suppose to be William H***** Supervisor twice and he never responded. and cc'd the Better Business. I would like a response from Webster Bank and or the Better Business .Review from Elizabeth O

It is too bad we cannot give them 0 stars. We have been customers for over twenty years. Ever since the merger it is difficult to get a live person on the phone. When you do get a live person, they are so rude. We attempted multiple times to connect with the Fraud Department to discuss an unauthorized online transaction and the call kept dropping. When we finally got a live person on the line, the representative hung up on me when I asked my husband a question about his card number. The representative said, "give us a call back when you figure it out" then hung up. So, we had to start the process all over again. When we finally got another live person on the line, the issue was not resolved. Additionally, their new system and app are difficult to understand unlike the previous website and app. Needless to say, we will be closing our account with Webster Bank. It is unfortunate since we have been banking with them so long and never had any issues getting any assistance with account questions.Review from Kristin J

I have been with Webster for decades. Since they merged they are AWFUL. I have had issue after issue and not one gets resolved. Their online banking is atrocious. I have finally made the move to another bank after countless hours on hold with customer service.Review from Ty H

Bank is so far behind every other bank. Can’t even add your card to ***** *** without waiting on hold for 15 minutes. If you want easy and quick service and handling of your money look elsewhere.
