2011 BBB Torch Award Winners Announced

May 24, 2011

Each year the Better Business Bureau of Central SC and Charleston honors outstanding companies with its Torch Awards. Those selected display outstanding integrity in business practices and demonstrate commitment to the community. Nominees must maintain high standards of behavior toward customers and employees, have a history of ethical practices in the marketplace and involvement in the community, and have a satisfactory record with the BBB.

The 2011 winners were announced Saturday May, 21st during the BBB Business Trust EXPO held at the new SC State Farmers Market.  The winners are Frank’s Carwash and International Construction Services, Inc.

2011 Torch Award Winner:
Frank's Carwash

Frank’s Carwash is a family oriented business owned and operated by Mr. Michael E. Hutchins. Mike's Dad Frank Hutchins opened his first location in 1973 on Bush River Road.  Today, Mike’s two sons are General Managers.

Frank’s Carwash specializes in taking care of the majority of people’s “second” most valuable possession. They have 10 locations and an 11th is being built in the Charleston area.

In their 38 year history, Frank’s Carwash has donated over 25,000 free car wash passes to churches, schools and civic organizations. These passes have helped raise well over $155,000 in funds for class trips, choir robes, Muscular Dystrophy, Special Olympics, Boy Scout tents, high school band equipment, soccer uniforms, mission trips and youth ministries.

2011 Torch Award Winner:
International Construction Services, Inc

International Construction Services, Inc. is a full service Exterior Contractor owned by Mr. Milton Posada, Sr. The company was established in 1995 and has served the midlands community of South Carolina since 2000.

Until 2010, International Construction Services, Inc. worked primarily with building contractors. In the spring of 2010, the company changed their business model to include a residential re-roofing division.

The residential re-roofing industry has been scarred in recent years by the unethical practices of some roofing companies. A major national roofing company had taken substantial deposits, prior to the commencement of work from customers to replace their damaged roofs. The company eventually filed for bankruptcy, leaving customers without their money and damaged roofs.

International Construction Services, Inc. has assisted 23 of these unfortunate victims by offering their services at or below cost. Mr. Posada states, “These people had lost thousands of dollars, as well as their confidence and trust in businesses as a whole. To help them restore that confidence has been a precious gift to us."
