City of Charleston Police Department issues warning over illegal temporary signage.

January 26, 2009

The City of Charleston Police Department has contacted The BBB of Central SC and Charleston to inform area businesses that the City of Charleston has received numerous complaints concerning the placement of illegal signage throughout the City. The City will be taking a more aggressive approach to control this offense and asks business owners to divert their advertising dollars elsewhere, and lessen their risk of receiving potentially substantial fines of up to $1,092.00 per offense.

The City of Charleston welcomes any questions concerning this issue to ensure compliance of City code Sec. 54-404, Prohibited Signs. You can review the ordinance on-line using the website and navigating the on-line library. You can also contact the Zoning Division of the Planning, Preservation and Economic Innovation Department at 843-724-3781.
