BBB Issues “Call for Entries” for 2008 International Torch Awards: Awards Focus on Building and Sustaining Trust in the Marketplace

Arlington, VA, October 3, 2007 – The Better Business Bureau (BBB) is calling on all businesses with a strong sense of accountability and responsibility aimed at advancing trust in the marketplace to enter the 2008 BBB International Torch Awards for Marketplace Excellence (formerly the BBB International Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics).

The winning company, to be selected by a voluntary independent panel of judges, will be recognized at a special evening gala at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on April 8, 2008.

“Businesses who have worked to uphold the trust and respect of their customers, employees, vendors, shareholders and communities are encouraged to enter this competition,” said Steve Cole, president and CEO of the Council of Better Business Bureaus.

The Marketplace Excellence award is open to all for-profit businesses in North America whether or not they are accredited by BBB. Each year, businesses of varied sizes, geographical location and industry, are nominated by customers, employees, industry groups and local BBBs. Nominations and entries for the 2008 Marketplace Excellence award will be accepted through November 1, 2007.

The award rules, judging criteria, entry form, suggestions for completing an entry packet, and profiles of past winners are available online at the Torch Awards Web site at http://www.bbb.org/internationaltorchawards or by contacting the Council of Better Business Bureaus at 703.247.9312. There is a $75, non-refundable entry fee.

Also being honored by BBB at the National Press Club ceremony will be winners of the BBB International Torch Awards for Advancing Marketplace Trust and Consumer Leadership categories. Winners for these two newly created awards are selected via a closed nomination process and are not open to the public.
