Additional Notes

Complaint: On August 27, 2011 a tree fell on our home causing damage to the roof, gutter, door, siding and lights. Contacted J & B Roofing, they came out and examined the damage, met with insurance adjuster and were given the approval for repair work from the insurance company. A check was issued from the insurance company for the amount quoted by J & B Roofing. This information was communicated to the Estimator. I had many phone conversations with the Estimator to find out when we might expect to have repairs started. I was told they were behind schedule. In October I called both the Estimator and the office and left a message that while I understood they were behind schedule, if they could just replace the gutter I was willing to wait for the remainder of the repairs. Note, that although we were told the roof needed repair, we were not told the extent of the damage and no protection to the roof damage was taken. During the week of October 24 we had heavy rain which caused water to leak into my bedroom and living room causing damage to my ceilings, floor coverings and furnishings. I called the Estimator about the water that was coming in and was told "that was impossible" and that "he would see if he could get out to look at the problem". He never followed through. Days later, I called the office about the water situation and was told they had no contract for me. Although the Estimator had mailed a work order listing the repairs and the cost, we were never advised that we were to sign and return this. This only came up from the office assistant. I then contacted the Production Manager/Partner who told me he would look into the matter and get back to me. I am again still waiting.

Desired Settlement: I would like an explanation as to why the hole in the roof was not protected, why the Estimator and/or the Company failed to follow through when told there was water damage in the home and would like some monetary compensation made towards the additional damage and inconvenience.

Business Response:

Second response---Our position has not changed on this complaint. We priced this job on what the insurance adjuster asked us to bid. She needs more work than what was proposed by the isurance adjuster. The homeowner never signed a contract or told our office that we were given the job. Again, our position on this complant has not changed--we were never contacted to do this job.

Consumer Response:

I was trying to open this to see the response and accidentally hit accept response because I thought that is what I needed to click on to open J&B’s response.  I see now that was not what I was supposed to click on – PLEASE NOTE – I DO NOT ACCEPT THEIR RESPONSE.

Would you resend the e-mail  to me and allow me to respond?  Thanks

Consumer Response: Yes, another company was contacted and hired thourgh our insurance company.  They replaced the roof on the front of the house.  The repair work to the ceiling in the living room and bedroom was completed last week and the carpet is scheduled to be cleaned next week.  All of this work was done by the restoration company hired through our insurance adjuster.  The interior repair work was necessitated by the water damage resulting from the hole in the roof  that J&B failed to protect and repair.
