Nursing Homes

The BBB routinely advises that selecting a nursing home should begin with a consultation with the prospective resident's personal physician as well as clergy, local nursing home associations and departments of aging as well as any local senior citizen groups.

Topics to investigate include facility location, accessibility, financial aid, most current review results, cleanliness, food, fire safety, rooms, and attitudes of caregivers and residents.

When a nursing home is decided upon, the contract should be carefully reviewed. Make sure that all charges and financial responsibilities are clearly spelled out.

Check for state licensed and Medicare/Medicaid certified nursing homes with the Ohio Department of Health by calling 1-614-466-3543 or visit their website at www.odh.ohio.gov.
