Complaint: My husband and I wanted quality furniture for our new family room. We decided to choose Sedlaks because our interior designer went through this company. We went with a Miles Talbot couch and love seat totaling approximately $4200. The couches were delivered in October of 2012. I started to notice pretty quickly that the chenille fabric was becoming discolored in spots. The couches are a light green color and there were these white spots all over that would not "brush out." Within a few months, my brand new couches looked like something we had for 10 years. I kindly called Sedlaks to inquire about my problem. They sent out a cushion casing to get tested. The results were that it was the nature of the fabric to "crush" when in use and I had to brush the fabric frequently. But brushing was not fixing my problem. Also, I was never told the fiber characteristics of this fabric. I viewed a small sample and liked it. However, if I were told this is how this specific fabric would wear, I would have never spent $4200 on these couches..I would have gone with another fabric. I should have just went to Value City for what my couches look like right now. The reason I went to Sedlaks is because of the quality, and my couches look like they are 10 years old. I expected them to stand behind their product and reputation for quality. I am a retail manager, I understand customer service. I do everything I can to make my customers happy. I expect the same from Sedlaks. I was misled regarding the nature of this fabric.
Desired Settlement: I would like my couches re-covered with fabric that will not wear as bad as mine did in 6 months.
The complaint can be summed up as the client is unhappy with the particular
fabric selected and how it performs in the setting in their home. The fabric is
a fine chenille which, like a corduroy, velvet, or thick plush carpet, has a
distinct nap. This nap is prone to "crushing" and resulting shading.
The best example of this I can think of are the elbows on corduroy jackets,
when they were popular, showing large shinny areas where the fabric got
"crushed." ******* ********, in her complaint, speaks of "white
spots." This implies small defined marks. A better description of the
issue would be large areas on the fabric associated with parts on the sofa
where it is sat on that have lightened noticeably, especially when viewed in
different and oblique lighting. We did send the worst cushion covering out to
the fabric mill for examination. They found no defect or damage, their report
is attached. While they had it, the mill brushed the fabric, the same way it
has been suggested that the client should do to help eliminate the shading as
much as possible as soon as it occurs. The cover came back to us in an almost
new appearance, with the shading brushed out.
BBB's Final Determination: Business offered a resolution. Consumer did not pursue further with BBB and the matter was assumed to be resolved
