Complaint: I have purchased a meat grinder Weston model 33-0201-w. I have used it several times. on the last occasion I have put the tray 33-0824-A in the dishwasher. regretfully it oxidized. I thought it could washed in a dishwasher because nowhere in the manual is the tray represented as a part of the grinder. therefore, I have thought it was safe to wash it in a dishwasher. I have contacted the business and they told me that the tray is part of the grinder and there was nothing they would do. they offered to sell me a new tray for almost $30. The tray is not represented as a part of the grinder and manual does not specify that the tray is not dishwasher safe. as a matter of fact on page 6 of the manual - titled - CLEANING - he tray is not even drawn. Item 3 - states that the grinder parts are not dishwasher safe. nothing is mentioned about the tray.
Desired Settlement: replacement of the damaged tray for the new tray
Business Response: Per the BBB complaint, the customer was under the impression that the #8 Weston Heavy Duty Grinder Tray could be washed in the dishwasher; however, the tray is aluminum and therefore not dishwasher safe. The cleaning instructions on (page 6) of the owner instruction manual states the following: “Wash all parts that come in contact with food in hot soapy water, rise with clear water then immediately dry.” The cleaning instructions also state that grinder parts are not dishwasher safe and to avoid the use of bleach in the washing process. Since the tray is essentially the vessel used to hold the meat/food product that gets pushed through the mincing process, this would classify the tray as an element that comes in direct contact with food and therefore should be washed in accordance with the owner manual cleaning instructions. Next, per the BBB complaint, the customer stated that he was not aware that the tray was considered to be a “part” or separate element. The customer states that he was under the impression that the tray was considered to be one with the grinder. Unfortunately, the tray is considered to be a part or separate component. The tray is shown in the owner instruction manual on the parts component list, and has a corresponding part number (Part# 33-0824-A). In addition, the tray is a detachable component that comes into direct contact with food and therefore should follow the cleaning instructions listed in the owner’s manual. At this point I am willing to make a (1X) exception and will provide the customer with a replacement tray. I will reach out to this customer to collect their verify their name and address prior to shipping the product. Thank You!
