WHEN: Saturday, April 26
WHERE: UC Blue Ash College parking lot
9555 Plainfield Road
Blue Ash, Ohio 45232
WHAT: Better Business Bureau® and the Hamilton County Coalition to Stop Fraud, Scams & Abuse will partner with WCPO’s John Matarese, University of Cincinnati and WMKV radio to host a FREE Shred Day on Saturday, April 26.
“Identity theft is one of the fastest-growing white collar crimes nationwide, and thieves devise new and inventive ways to steal personal information every day,” said Commissioner Greg Hartmann, who led the creation of the Fraud Coalition in 2011. “Quite often, the most effective way to prevent identity theft is to protect your personal documents and private information.”
The process at Shred Day is easy: residents are welcome to enter the parking lot, drop off their personal documents to be shredded by a Cintas shredding truck, and quickly exit. Volunteers will be on hand to help lift boxes and carry them to the shredder. There is a five-box limit.
“Identity theft can have a devastating emotional impact on individuals and families,” said Jocile Ehrlich, President of Better Business Bureau. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and destroying documents at our Shred Day event is critical to safeguarding your personal information and preventing identity theft.”
Shred Day events have been held twice a year since 2011. The last Shred Day in October 2013 was a success, with 13 tons of documents shredded for residents!
