Cincinnati, Ohio - October 25, 2013 - There was nothing frightful about the 13th annual Torch Award Celebration held Thursday evening at the Duke Energy Convention Center. The Business Backer, Dial One Security, Inc., Easter Seals TriState, Security National Automotive Acceptance Corporation (SNAAC), and the Visiting Nurse Association of Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky were named BBB Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics Recipients before a crowd of 400 business, nonprofit, and community leaders.
“We are very fortunate to have so many businesses that have shown they care about how they conduct their business in a fair, ethical manner,” explained Jocile Ehrlich, president & CEO of the BBB. “These awards truly bring out the best of the best and we hope there will be even more businesses out there who will join us at the podium next year.”
Torch Awards Applicants conduct an intense self-evaluation of their business practices that include but not limited to: how ethical practices are made part of the day-to-day operations through employee trainings to reviewing the way they resolve ethical dilemmas involving their customers, suppliers, vendors, and donors; and their long-standing history and reputation for ethical standards of behavior in the community. Businesses to nonprofits are invited each year to apply. For some, it is an opportunity to showcase the type of service they provide and enjoy an evening of peer recognition.
“There is something about nonprofit organizations we need to understand, they are frequently underpaid and understaffed; they are not driven by the bottom line; they are not driven by the top line; they are driven by their hearts and the benefit they provide to our community,” Thomas Klinedinst, chairman of the BBB Center for Ethics Board.
Results of the self-evaluation are compiled and presented to an independent panel of judges that scrutinizes all applications before selecting Torch Award Recipients and Honorees. The Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics Honorees are Affordable Language Services, OMEGA Processing Solutions, Housh Inc, Sharp Business Systems - Ohio, Infintech, Shiver Security, Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission and SPCA Cincinnati.
