Hey, Businesses -- Don’t Be the Victim

Within the last several months, we have heard from two different BBB Accredited Businesses that were almost scammed. In both cases, a "potential customer" requested that the business pay for their own shipping charges upfront by Western Union. To add to our concern, the scammer wasn’t willing to provide either BBB Accredited Business a phone number or an address.

The next time you or your employees are approached for your services remember that it’s absolutely vital to get solid contact information for your customer (name, address and phone number). Also, NEVER pay upfront to ship your own products or services, even (better yet, especially) when a potential customer promises to reimburse you. Most of all, follow your gut. If something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.
