The Center for Ethics at BBB
The Center for Ethics at BBB, a 501(c)(3) affiliate of BBB Serving Southern Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Southeast Indiana, envisions an ethics-centered community. We proactively engage the community to affect ethical change and build trust. The Center works with businesses, charities, and young people to strengthen the marketplace through engaging programs, community involvement, and interactive workshops. The Center's major programs include: BBB Accreditation for Charities, Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics, In Pursuit of Ethics, Students of Integrity, and BBB Military Line.
BBB Accreditation for Charities: By reviewing and accrediting charities, the Center strengthens the local philanthropic community by guiding charities to implement ethical best practices to ensure contributions are spent wisely. The Center reports on area charities after receiving requests for information from the public.
Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics: This annual awards event celebrates local businesses and charities that exemplify what it means to work towards creating an ethical marketplace. Business, nonprofit, and community leaders gather to recognize the outstanding work of their fellow Torch Award Finalists and Recipients.
In Pursuit of Ethics: This unique, memorable, and fun course trains employees and young people to make ethical decisions using interactive scenarios to showcase complex real-life situations and teach participants how to make ethical decisions. Since its inception in 2011, more than 100 business professionals and 400 students have completed this course.
Students of Integrity: Each year at our Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics event we celebrate young adults that have demonstrated sound ethical decision making skills. The students demonstrate sound ethical decision-making skills by putting the Center’s five-part process for resolving ethical dilemmas into practice in essay form. These students are awarded $1,000 scholarships for post-secondary education expenses.
BBB Military Line: Military Line provides free resources to the military community in the areas of financial literacy and consumer protection. The main components are education, outreach, information, data collection, and complaint and dispute resolution.
