Automatic Transmissions
In addition to being familiar with the signs of transmission trouble, the following points should be kept in mind by the transmission-wise driver:
Do not be misled by low-price adjustment advertising. Most late model cars cannot be adjusted at all.
Do not be afraid to make a decision to open up the transmission. Such a decision does not necessarily mean that you need an overhaul, or a rebuilding of your transmission.
Make sure at the beginning that you clearly understand whether or not all quoted prices include both parts and labor.
Ask about the guarantee or warranty included with the work to be done.
Ask your neighbors, fellow workers and friends who may have had transmission repairs done where they went and how satisfied they were with the work. Ask if the company employs transmission mechanics certified under a nationwide program of the National Institute for Automotive Service (NIASE).
