Tires
To prolong the life of your tires, keep the following in mind: - Maintain proper tire inflation pressure. - Rotate tires every 5,000 miles or sooner if irregular wear occurs. - Check tire balance, wheel alignment and suspension when tires are rotated or if uneven or rapid wear occurs. - Don't overload your car. - Avoid jack-rabbit starts and panic stops, driving at excessive speed and fast turns on curves and around corners. - Avoid driving over curbs, chuck holes, and rough roads at excessive speeds.
Also, keep the following in mind when purchasing new tires: - Check your tires periodically for excessive, abnormal or irregular wear. Replace tires when they're down to their tread wear indicators, or the last 1/16-inch of tread depth in two or more adjacent groves. - Maintain the correct inflation pressure. - Keep your car's front end in alignment. - Choose replacement tires with care. Shop around and get the tire that fits your own particular driving needs. - Make certain that newly purchased tires are balanced before installing them on your car and that your car's brakes and shock absorbers are in good repair. - Finally, when buying new tires be sure the identification number of the tires and your name and address are entered on the registration form as required by federal law, and returned to the tire manufacturer for use in case of a tire recall.
