Industry Tips
Telephone Services, Long Distance
Consider the following information when thinking about getting long distance telephone services:
* Check competitive prices, but realize that rates are subject to change.
* Check references.
* Generally, there is no hook up fee for individual users, but if using equal access through your local phone company, there may be a charge to change access from one long distance carrier to another.
* Contact your state's Public Utilities Commission for
additional information and regulations.
If your long distance telephone service is switched without your authorization (a process called "slamming"), you have the right to request that your service be switched back at no charge to you. You should report any unauthorized switching of long distance service to your local phone company and to the Federal Communications Commission at the following address:
Federal Communications Commission
Common Carrier BBB Enforcement Division
Mail Stop Code 1600 A 2
2 0 2 5 M Street, Northwest
Washington, DC 2 0 5 5 4.
