When selecting a home maintenance company, consider the following:
* Get several estimates, but remember, the least expensive service is not necessarily the best.
* Find out the qualifications the professionals have.
* Verify company's liability insurance in case of damage to your property.
* Ask the company for 3 references and contact those people.
* Understand and keep a copy of contract, 3 day Right to cancel paperwork, and warranty.
* Contract should include performance date, job specifications, cost, oral promise & company cancellation policy. Some service contracts remain in effect until cancelled in writing). Also, be certain to fill in all blanks before signing.
*Some companies have a policy of charging a trip fee, to offset gasoline prices, in addition to the charges for the actual service. The BBB suggests that you inquire about trip fees prior to contracting with a company.
* The 3-day right to cancel law applies only in certain
situations; if you cancel under its terms, get a written acknowledgement of your cancellation notice from the company or send by certified mail, return receipt requested.
