Industry Tips
Boats/Marines
When considering purchasing a used boat, consider the following:
* If a dealer sells the boat, obtain the name and telephone number of the previous owner. Discuss with the previous owner the condition of the boat, usage, etc.
* Depending upon the size of the boat, you may want to retain the services of a marine surveyor. This is recommended for expensive boats, boats over 35 feet in length, and especially for wooden-hulled boats.
* Ask if a log has been kept on major repairs, maintenance, check ups, etc.
* Make a personal inspection of the entire boat and pay specific attention to the interior and exterior of the hull.
* If you have not previously been a boat owner, seek the advice of a boat owner prior to making any offer.
* Finally, as with automobiles, used boats are sold as is. This means that the company has no responsibility with regards to any further maintenance or repairs, or if breakdowns may occur.
