Complaint: I am filing this complaint in an effort to track honest communication with this contractor. I reported water coming into my ceiling and mold after a recent roof replacement by his company on 11/7. ****** said he would have a staff person meet with me on 11/8 to look at the damage inside my home. His staff person failed to show up for an in person meeting. ****** was contacted and he told me " I sent a man on the roof to take a look." We had an appointment where I left work and he failed to meet on time. He then sent the man later in the day to meet with me and take pictures inside my home. ****** met with me on 11/12 and had a staff person view the damage from the inside which was duct taped over with a garbage bag. He had repairs done on 11/16. My roof was worse and more water came in. We set up a day to meet on 11/23. He failed to meet and again with the " I sent a man up there". A crack in the flue they replaced was discovered and he said now its too cold to replace. ****** was notified in ample time and has ample opportunities to repair the roof. After 3 attempts it's worse. Today as I file this complaint it is -8 in my upstairs room. I have black mold growing inside the ceiling, and I have a senior citizen ( mom) who owns the home with me who is immune compromised after having a kidney transplant. every day that gets colder and wetter continues to incur damages and mold. I hear creaking noises in the roof and I am afraid because I never heard those noises prior to this repair. I no longer trust that after 3 attempts and still finding problems that this roof will be repaired in an expedient manner no longer pose a safety issue. I have water coming in through a single bulb light fixture into the home. There was no offer or action to even properly resolve the matter from the inside until the weather gets warmer to repair outside. ****** claims it will be fixed in warmer weather yet the repair he offers will not correct the extent of my damages incurred. He offers no time-frame on resolution. I am asking for him to supply his contractor insurance information so I can have a claim properly filed and this repair properly fixed. ------------------------------------------------- 12/18/13 info from consumer: As a brief update, I have been informed by the Village of Bartlett that no permit was pulled ( as required by our village) for the roof replacement. The replacement may not adhere to the regulations established as of 2006 by code enforcement. Because the proper requirements were not in place to ensure this work was conducted in an ethical matter, there can be no citation issued for the defects in the work, I have more damages accruing by the day as more water soaks into my roof. I was informed on Sunday that the gable is water soaked and this is a recipe for the roof to collapse. This company has caused a hardship on our home. Moreover, our holiday has been ruined ****** ****** ------------------------------------------------- Fwd: BBB Complaint Case# 94480105 (Ref#XX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXXX-X-XXX) 1 message JM ****** <****************@gmail.com> Wed, Dec 18, 2013 at 4:56 PM To: *******@chicago.bbb.org Dear *****, As a brief update, I have been informed by the Village of Bartlett that no permit was pulled ( as required by our village) for the roof replacement. Desired Settlement: Seeking them to provide the name of their insurance company and policy and claim information for me to file a claim for my damages.
Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 5, 2013/12/20) */ To Whom it may concern, First, let me begin by saying that this is the first complaint filed against my company with the BBB. I take great pride in the workmanship and integrity of all my sub-contractors which are all licensed by the state of Illinois. The roof replacement was not contracted by the homeowner, but by the property management company. The roof was replaced the week of 9/20/13. A permit was pulled on 9/16/13 from the village of Bartlett. I was first contacted about a leak on 11/07/13. On 11/08/13 I sent one of my licensed sub-contractors to take a look at the roof. After a visual inspection of the exterior of the roof, he told me everything looked OK on the exterior portion. On 11/12/13, I met the homeowner to discuss the problem and to check out the interior attic. At my first observation, in the closet ,I noticed stains on the ceiling. These stains appeared to be from a pre-exsisting condition. I discovered the dryer vent duct work was missing from the dryer to the exhaust vent on the roof. The homeowner informed me that there was a fire a couple of years ago and the dryer duct had been removed by the fire department. We removed the exhaust roof vent on the roof and reshingled the opening because nothing was connected to it. The dryer vent duct currently is running through the house from the 2nd floor, and it is exposed along the stairway heading to first floor to an unknown location. On 11/22/13, I received another call that the roof was still leaking. On 11/23/13, I sent another licensed roofer to check the condition of the roof. Upon inspection, he discovered a small crack in the soil/stack flashing jacket( Manufacturer's defect ). He applied sealant to repair the crack. I told the homeowner that we could not replace the defected pipe flashing until the weather conditions improved to above 45 degrees. I believe there are more underlying problems with this roof: 1. possible condensation issues from drastic temperature change in the attic 2. high heat and humidity levels in living area which causes condensation giving the appearance that the roof is leaking. I have contacted The Property Management Company to see how they want to procede with this matter. I am eager to resolve this situation as soon as possible. Sincerely, ***** ****** President of Residential Exterior Solutions
