I cosigned on my daughters lease for a studio apartment in Surf Developments building located at **************************************************************** November 14, 2022, my daughter accidently locked herself out of her apartment at 12:30 am. She called two numbers listed on her lease as contact phones for Surf Development, no one answered either call. This incident in and of itself is not where we take grievance with Surf Development. Our grievance revolves around the next series of interactions with ************************* and later a gentleman named ***. Clearly Surf Development has no On Call Emergency Maintenance phone number. Instead of communicating that directly when asked, **** decides to refer us to the resident portal and the lease again. If no one answers a telephone for an afterhours emergency, we do not have much confidence that a resident portal maintenance request would dispatch help any faster. The doorknob to the apartment needs to be replaced and my daughter arranges for Surf Development to install it while she is at work. Not long thereafter she receives an invoice for $300.I made a phone call to *** at Surf Developments to discuss the situation that **** could no longer be bothered with. I inquired why this was not treated as a lock change. *** stated that he hires skilled labor to perform maintenance and that they may have had to work on the door jamb and may have been there all day fixing it. I was incredulous at how it takes anyone a full day to change a lock. *** was not going to provide any honest answers to my questions. I then made comment on ***** lack of professionalism and customer service, to which *** replied this is a tough business and she has been very successful. As if this is an excuse to treat people unfairly and ***** tenants for simple maintenance work. The lease is up soon, and Surf can have their apartment back. PSA: Do not rent from this company, if you do be prepared for a very passive-aggressive unprofessional management team.
