I hired ************************* of the Mellow Brothers Company to paint my kitchen on January 4th. I paid a third of the overall contract cost, $2,550.00, and $850.00 on January 29th to start work. The work started on 1/29/2024. The contract I signed stated that the painters would "prepare and paint" all kitchen surfaces. The work took two days and was performed by primarily one painter. A second painter came in periodically during the afternoons. On the final day, 1/31, I inspected the work and was disappointed. The painter did no preparation to the wall surfaces at all. The paint rings where the old drawer k**** had been was simply painted over, black fingerprints were left to dry in wet paint around my refrigerator, every hinge in my cabinets had paint on them, every cabinet had drips of paint on their surface, a ceiling light canister above the sink had paint smeared across it. Additionally, several cabinet hinges were broken. When I realized the poor quality of work, I contacted **** and said that I was terminating our contract and that I did not want the painter to come and patch up his work. There was too much to correct, and I lost confidence in the painter's ability to do a professional job. Instead, I hired Angeles Painting Company to fix and complete the work for the same price. They did an EXCELLENT job. Now, *************************, owner of the Mellow Brothers is threatening to take me to court because I did not pay him the outstanding balance of his bill. I am contacting the BBB because I believe **** and the Mellow Brothers did not hold up the end of their contract. They did a subpar job, and I should not be required to continue using their services just because of a contract. I believe he should pay me back for my deposit of $850 because I had to hire another company to fix the poor painting work of his company.
