In accordance with findings from the BBB of Fort Worth:
The Better Business Bureau of Fort Worth and Tarrant County, Inc. (BBB of Fort Worth) has received more than 100 complaints since 2013 from consumers who say they received a phone call from someone claiming to be a representative of CashNetUSA. Consumers were asked for money to process a personal loan application, and to put the money on a Green Dot MoneyPak prepaid card or send the money via a wire transfer.
CashNetUSA is aware of the scam and is working to educate its customers and the general public about these con artists. "These phone calls are not coming from CashNetUSA ," said Megan Staton, director of marketing for CashNetUSA. "As a legal, licensed lender, we do not ask or require payment in advance of funding a loan. If you ever receive a call from an individual claiming to be from CashNetUSA but you have doubts about the caller's true identity, hang up and call our fraud prevention team at (866) 254-3581." In addition, CashNetUSA provides consumers with information and safeguards relating to the scam through its website--www.CashNetUSA.com/consumer-notices.
Continued investigation from the BBB of Chicago found that Cash Net USA had been acquired by Cash America International, but operates as a separate legal entity. The acquisition establishes an internet distribution channel for Cash America to provide payday loans. CashNetUSA will compliment Cash America's 758 physical locations. In order to better handle the scam reported as their company, CashNetUSA has committed to training their customer service representatives on what they do and do not offer as a company, so that consumers might better understand the services offered by CashNetUSA before signing up for anything. The BBB will continue to monitor this scam, as well as future CashNetUSA complaints.
