            Attorney General Ellison sues Reynolds, Walmart for defrauding consumers, deceptively marketing 'recycling' bags that are not recyclable

            The following describes a pending government action that has been formally brought by a government agency but has not yet been resolved. We are providing a summary of the government’s allegations, which have not yet been proven. 

            On 6/6/2023, the Minnesota Attorney general Keith Ellison filed a lawsuit against Reynolds Consumer Products, Inc. the parent company of the Hefty bag trademark, and Walmart for defrauding and deceiving Minnesota consumers through their marketing of so-called 'recycling' bags. These bags are not in fact recyclable in Minnesota and render unrecyclable all materials placed within them, even items that would otherwise be recyclable.  The matter is pending.             I purchased a garbage can from Hefty within the last couple years. The plastic around the can step has cracked and fallen apart. Due to this, I reached out to the Reynolds Consumer Products support line. After many calls, I was never able to get someone to answer the phone. I left a message, but never received a return call. I sent an email and received a message back about 2 weeks later. The email promised a coupon to purchase a replacement product to be delivered within 7-10 business days. At this point in time, it has been 20 business days with no coupon delivered. I have sent multiple emails requesting an update and none have been answered. My issue is just with the lack of responsiveness to customer service requests.

            Purchased Hefty 1 gallon bags. These are garbage. The seal won't even open, had to throw away the entire 30 pack. Reynolds was no help. Keep asking for info I've already provided. Steer clear of these bags, competitors are much better. 2nd time this has happened.
