King Blacktop and Concrete is an asphalt and concrete installation and service company. Located in Byron, IL, this company serves Ogle, Winnebago, and Boone counties. King Blacktop and Concrete has over 25 years of experience with asphalt and concrete.
Services that this company provides include the installation of asphalt and concrete driveways, sidewalks, and parking lots, as well as the application of sealcoating to extend the life of a driveway or parking lot. The company can remove and replace old asphalt or concrete areas, apply coating, fill in cracks, and repair damaged blacktop by installing asphalt patches. For commercial customers needing a parking lot or driveway, King Blacktop and Concrete will work with the customer to determine the amount of traffic that an area receives in order to determine how much load the asphalt will need to bear, and determine an appropriate budget for the customer's needs. When the pavement has been properly installed, the company will then place the appropriate line striping, traffic markings, and signage to comply with local traffic laws and Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
Services for both residential and commercial customers include examining the rocky sublevel to determine if it is secure and has not been damaged by water, and repairing it accordingly if necessary. They grade the concrete or asphalt to encourage proper drainage, and finish the sides of the driveway or pavement with a 45-degree beveled edge to ensure water runoff and prevent cracks.

Complaint: I had my driveway done by King Blacktop late of last summer, 2015. And in order to get the warranty, I have to get it paved by them with in the same month. Which I did. So, I paid for a brand new driveway and had it paved. Early summer of this year, I did the inspection on my driveway, and found a lot of cracks along the edges of my driveway. Also, I had a dump truck drove over it to deliver some dirt. When the dump truck drove over my driveway, my driveway sunk down about 2 inches where the dump trucks tire were. I called up ****, from King blacktop. After may phone calls and 2 months later, he finally came out and inspected. I told me that the damages and the cracks are not covered under the warranty. And he quotes me $1500.00 to fix it. Now, that got me thinking, what is covered under the warranty? My neighbors got their driveway paved the same time with a different vendor, and they didn't have to get it seal the same year and they still have the warranty and they didn't have any cracks on their edges. Clearly, it was the poor workmanship from King Blacktop that they did not compact the edge of the driveway, that's why the edges of my driveway is cracked and falling apart. Also, they did not compact the base properly, that's why the tires sunk down on my driveway. They didn't have a problem taking my hard earn money. I just want what I paid for.
Desired Settlement: I just want what I paid for, a new driveway that last longer than a year with out any damages. Fix all of the cracks along the edges. Cut the sunk down area and compact the base properly and repave it to match the original driveway.
This driveway was paved late in the season of 2015 using a standard Residential mix compacted to a 2" layer of asphalt. This depth of asphalt cannot and will not support a loaded dump truck weighing 50,000 lb with dirt. This weight can commonly cause the asphalt to crack and/or leave marks where the tires drove on the asphalt and also drove off the edge of the driveway. If this type of damage occurs, repairs are required, and not covered under any common asphalt warranties. So any needed repairs will be at an additional expense to the property owner.
We do have photos of the damaged drive way showing where the dump truck backed onto the driveway and also off the edge of the driveway.
There are other cracks along the edges of the driveway. Kings Blacktop did not respond to this issue.
As for the tire track damaged, I have to take the bullet and take that as a loss.
