The amount of work performed to improve our crawl space are well below our expectation. Far below the worth of estimate that I paid.
The service estimate including tacking up loose wires, insulation, ductwork, removing debris and laying 6 mil clear polyethylene vapor barrier atop soil for 1,300 sq ft. The estimate by *** ******** is $1,105 and work performed on 11/14/14. We paid the above amount on invoice# 4151 by check made to the company. The truth is only one cable wire lay on the soil that had been tacking up, only one small insulation that was partially collapse has been fixed and very few debris that needed to be remove. Otherwise the crawl space was in fairly good condition. They did ok job but not impressive on laying plastic on soil and fasten to the soil. All this was done by 2 men. They arrived at 9am and left around 11:15pm. The total cost of materials should be under $200 as researched and only 4.5 hours of total labor. Factor in driving to and from (likely they had another job close by) and time to give us an estimate from days before, I couldn't add up nowhere close to what they charged us for $1,105. The problem is at $1,105, I was expecting they will do great job at leveling some soil and no dirt showing along the walls and do a better job at ductwork. As far as I can see there was no improvement to ductwork. Not a very professional work. I think the fair price is around $600 and $800 would have be on the high side. Anything over $800 felt like they took advantage of us.
To make me feel more happy, $200 refund would have been nice. I know I was stuck with the estimate, but it is just far below my expectation for what I paid.
The crew leader of this job, Dustin Stocke checked with the homeowner after work was done to see if they were happy with the work. He entered the crawl space with them. The homeowner did mention the ductwork, and Dustin explained that there was not a lot of ductwork that needed to be tacked up. He and Jamario tacked up the ones that were down. They provided pictures of before and after the work, and went over these with the homeowner. The homeowner expressed how satisfied he was with the work, and did not mention having a problem at all. In fact, the homeowner never made a complaint with the office, Dustin or *** ********, his sales rep, before posting this negative review. Had he called and told us he was dissatisfied (which was contradictory to what he told ******** we would have tried to resolve the issue. The homeowners also agreed to the price beforehand, signing a contract with *** before the work was scheduled. The price was fair, as we are based in Charlotte, NC (which is stated all over our quotes and contracts) and not "somewhere close by," as the homeowner stated. Materials vary from company to company, so doing an internet search for the price of materials is not always going to be accurate, and we do use the best materials for the best quality of work. Factoring in the price we pay for materials, the price we pay our employees to do the work, and the gas and travel time (about an hour and a half away), $1,105 is more than fair, and again, the homeowners had no problem with this pricing when they signed the contract. The quality of the work was very nice, and the photos taken of the work completed were reviewed by the owner of the company to ensure quality. We do not feel a refund is necessary, as the work was done well, the pricing was fair and we never heard a complaint out of the homeowner until this review was posted after final payment.
