Programs

              

The SHARP Literacy program incorporates the visual arts and art history into required science and social studies curricula to provide a multi-disciplinary approach proven to aid students, particularly those who are underprivileged and at-risk, in obtaining the research, reading, writing, and presentation skills necessary to succeed academically. Over the past 17 years, SHARP has served nearly 75,000 at-risk students and 4,000 educators from 1st-5th grade in public, private, parochial, choice and charter schools, many in Milwaukee’s inner city and near south side neighborhoods. A breakdown of the student population at the SHARP schools is 54% African-American, 31% Hispanic, 8% Caucasian, 5% Asian/Pacific Islander, 1% American Indian and 1% other. Eighty-nine percent of the students are on free and reduced-price lunch.
