Programs

IHA continues its mission welcoming with open arms each family who comes from shelters, basements, streets, cars, and abusive situations. IHA provides them with a safe and affordable place to live, and programs to help them restore their confidence in themselves and tools to move to self determination and independence. IHA welcomes them with compassion and helps the individual and the family set goals to put their lives together. Each person becomes a friend, and no longer a name. From the first phone call the staff and volunteers embrace them, accepts them where they are, and looks for ways to help them. From meeting the mom on the parking lot, to the child who first comes to tutoring, to the teen who stops by to use the computer, all are met with “how can we help” and “how they are doing”. Each person is asked to identify her goals, strengths and weaknesses. This is done in individual sessions with the executive director and together they work on achieving these goals. Tenant workshops, meetings and classes are provided to help with organizing their selves, their homes and their lives in general. Educational, social service and financial opportunities are provided so that she begins to have more confidence and respect for herself, and her abilities. Ultimately, IHA helps its clients move to breaking the cycle of generational poverty through its services.

For the fiscal year ended December 31, 2006, IHA's program expenses were:
