Programs

              

Second Harvest Food Bank of the Inland Nortwest brings community resources together to feed people in need through empowerment, education, and partnerships. Second Harvest's "Commodity Supplemental Food" program (CSFP) provides additional nutrition to ensure the healthy growth and development of young children and protect elderly people from the health risks associated with malnutrition. Second Harvest’s neighborhood food banks fill the nutritional gap for people in poverty, the working-poor families, elderly, and disabled people on very low fixed incomes, and children and families in temporary crisis. Second Harvest's "Mobile Food Bank" gets nutritious fresh foods into the hands of impoverished families living in rural and urban communities served by emergency food pantries that don’t have enough refrigeration to safely distribute perishable donations. In 2012, Second Harvest distributed 20.7 million pounds of food to a network of 250 neighborhood food banks and meal centers, according to the charity.
