Programs

The Healing Place uses a mutual-help program to help addicted homeless men become responsible, productive, and self-supporting citizens. This unique model operates with 3 components: • An Overnight Shelter with low barriers to entry offering refuge to homeless men, even if they are intoxicated, in conjunction and within the same setting as the recovery program so that the active alcoholic or addict has an opportunity to come into contact with some of his peers who are now in recovery. • A Social Detox offers a safe and secure place for someone to detox from alcohol and some drugs. It is a non-medical facility; however, for the vast majority, it represents an alternative to more costly options. • A Residential Recovery Program which includes: - Off-the-Streets -- 2 months. The “motivational phase” - Recovery -- 6 to 8 months. The main portion of the program. Clients work closely with staff to complete the Recovery Dynamics curriculum, based on the 12- Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. - Transitional Living -- 2 to 4 months. Clients find full-time employment, but continue to live on-site, and pay a small program fee. They are required to save some of their earnings to help pay for a down payment on their own apartment and must create a plan for their departure which includes maintaining long-term sobriety. A Free Clinic is available and clients are encouraged to remain close to The Healing Place community and attend weekly meetings provided for graduates as part of the After-care program.

For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2009, The Healing Place's program expenses were:

Recovery services 431,601
Transitionla services 282,406
Social detox unit 230,741
Overnight shelter 167,252
