Programs

The Virginia League for Planned Parenthood (VLPP) has been providing reproductive health care services to the Greater Richmond Metropolitan area for over 65 years. VLPP provides a full range of low-cost reproductive health care services including annual exams, diagnosis and treatment of pre-cancerous cervical conditions, comprehensive pre-natal care, sexually transmitted disease screenings and treatment, basic medical care, first trimester abortions, and adoption services. VLPP is the single largest provider of preventative, routine gynecological services for low-to-moderate income women in the Greater Richmond Area. Also, VLPP is the only local provider of low-cost follow-up procedures for women who experience an abnormal Pap test result. Low-income women are less likely to obtain annual exams and even less likely to follow-up on negative results than their higher income counterparts. They are also less likely to obtain a system of consistent birth control. VLPP is often the only low-cost option for women’s health care to women who do not have health insurance. In 2010 VLPP provided the following services: • Served 12,000 women • Dispensed more than 5,000 cycles of prescription birth control. • Performed more than 3,000 low-cost annual exams. • Provided prenatal care and educational support for nearly 200 women.
