Programs

Over the years, VHCF has been instrumental in building a network of “health care safety net” organizations (free clinics, community health care centers, and similar organizations)throughout the Commonwealth (from 33 -170), which provide medical, dental and/or mental health care and prescription medicines to uninsured Virginians with incomes less than or equal to 200% of the federal poverty level. More than 600,000 Virginians have directly benefited from VHCF programs and initiatives. As the recession has caused many Virginians to lose their jobs and health insurance, thousands of new patients have sought help from this health safety net, often overwhelming it. VHCF has been able to respond in a meaningful way. In the past year: -VHCF funded 26 doctors, dentists, nurse practitioners, and mental health professionals who treated patients via 56,000 visits. -"The Pharmacy Connection," VHCF’s special software, generated a record-breaking $162 million (Average Wholesale Price) in free prescription medicines for over 46,000 uninsured Virginians with chronic illnesses. -More than 5,000 uninsured children obtained health insurance via VHCF’s Project Connect outreach workers.

For the fiscal year ended June 30, 2010, VHCF's program expenses were:

Program services - grants 7,066,079
Total Program Expenses: $7,066,079
