Programs

VVMF dedicated the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, in 1982, with the goal of bringing national healing and remembering veterans of the Vietnam War. VVMF works with the National Parks Service and the Department of Defense to maintain and preserve the memorial. VVMF works to expand the impact of the memorial through programs, which include hosting ceremonies, sending a replica of the memorial throughout the U.S., and creating educational programs. Each of these programs reaches thousands of Americans, including families of the men and women who never returned from the Vietnam War, Vietnam veterans, current servicemen and women, and students. According to VVMF, in 2010, the traveling memorial/museum reached 24 communities and 230,000 individuals, educational guides were given to 96 schools, and over 10,000 people attended VVMF’s ceremonies. In efforts to enhance these programs, VVMF is working on a capital campaign to build an education center, an initiative of VVMF to build a center on the National Mall telling the stories of the over 58,000 heroes whose names are engraved on the memorial. Some ($1,709,101 or 32%) of VVMF's program activities are carried out in conjunction with fund raising appeals.

For the year ended December 31, 2010, VVMF's program expenses were:

Memorial legacy 2,158,841
Education center programs 960,105
