Programs

              

DAV provides free professional assistance to veterans and their families to help them secure government benefits. In 2009, DAV reports that it represented nearly a quarter of a million veterans. As part of DAV's National Voluntary Service Program, 2,207,012 hours of service and 595,718 free rides (22.3 million miles) to various VA medical facilities were provided to disabled veterans. The State Service, Disaster Relief and Memorials program has provided $5.2 million in 2009 to state-level DAV organizations for local programs serving disabled veterans. The Publications and Communications program informs disabled veterans of their rights and entitlements through the DAV Magazine and other communications. The activities of DAV's 1.3 million members are coordinated by the National Membership program. Through its Public Awareness Outreach program DAV encourages identification of disabled veterans who need assistance. Nearly all ($19,297,073 or 99.9%) of DAV's Public Awareness Outreach program activities are conducted in conjunction with fund raising appeals.
