Programs

              

IRC carries out programs of humanitarian assistance in areas of need outside the United States and conducts programs of public education regarding the situation, circumstances, needs and plight of the victims of oppression and persecution for the purpose of mobilizing assistance on their behalf. In 2010, the organization reported providing aid for millions of conflict-affected people around the world. IRC reports giving over 4.4 million people access to clean water and sanitation; providing 14.5 million people with primary and reproductive health care; vaccinating 210,000 children against disease; and helping 152,000 women deliver healthy babies. IRC trained 6,000 educators and supported 2,300 schools attended by 373,000 children, over half of them girls; provided skills training for over 11,500 young people while 12,000 children participated in IRC-sponsored children’s spaces; counseled 12,000 survivors of sexual violence; and educated and mobilized over 2.5 million men and women to lead prevention efforts in their communities. IRC assisted 17,200 refugees who departed from East Asia to enter the United States. In the United States, the organization helped resettle 9,600 newly arrived refugees and provided services to over 24,500 refugees, asylees and victims of human trafficking.
