Programs

              

FH sends food, seeds, clothing, medical supplies and other commodities to aid programs that it has initiated and efforts of other agencies involved in similar endeavors. Through its global partnerships, FH contributes toward emergency relief to victims of disasters in various countries. FH primarily grants money to FHI (Food for the Hungry International), which then provides services. FH also contributed to implement and operate micro-enterprise and other long-term development programs in developing nations.

Haiti Earthquake Relief Activities

              

FH reports that it distributed staple foods as well as hygiene kits, tarps, and water buckets to displaced families in the initial weeks after the earthquake. The organization also staffed mobile clinics with medical teams and provided medical supplies and support to local hospitals and clinics.  FH is providing temporary employment such as rubble removal and road rehabilitation jobs. The organization is also operating child-friedly spaces, which are safe and structured areas for children to learn, play, and recover from trauma. FH also trains community leaders and volunteers in skills related to basic trauma recovery, child protection, and the prevention of gender-based violence.

Child Sponsorship

              

Sponsorships help pay for food, clothes, and medical care through community development programs.  Sponsors pay $32 a month and receive annual progress reports on the benefits that the child has received, and an updated picture.  Sponsors may also write their children via mail or email and will receive replies (translated if a child does not speak English).  In addition, sponsors receive bi-annual newsletters with updates from the country where their sponsored child is from, tax-deductible statements for sponsorship, and opportunities to participate in other sponsorship programs.
