In 2010, CARE reports that it supported 768 poverty-fighting projects in 70 countries reaching almost 57 million people. CARE’s programs provide people with information and services to protect their health, plan their families and raise healthy children. The economic development programs help individuals gain access to credit and skills to start and expand a business. CARE also has programs to increase access to safe water, improve health and hygiene practices, improve crop production, and reduce the negative social and economic consequences of the AIDS epidemic. Furthermore, CARE works with civil society organizations and governments to improve decision-making and it reports that through this program, it has helped about 25.5 million people gain a voice and realize their rights.
