Programs

UWW is a global network of more than 1,200 local organizations that focus on education, income and health. Its goal is to create long-lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of societal problems. Each local UW (LUW) is an independent, separately incorporated organization governed by local volunteers. Issues addressed by LUWs are determined locally, but often include helping children and youth succeed; promoting financial stability, and improving health. Globally, UWW partners with organizations including other non-profits, government agencies, organized labor, businesses, faith-based organizations and individuals. UWW is engaged in a public policy agenda as well as with the U.S. Congress in support of 2-1-1, the national abbreviated dialing code for access to public and private health and human services referrals. Other national initiatives include Success By 6 focused on early childhood development, Financial Stability Partnership, and Alternative Spring Break, which offers college-aged students the opportunity to invest themselves in helping rebuild communities affected by natural disaster. UWW is the government-assigned fiscal agent of funds for the FEMA Emergency Food and Shelter program, which provides emergency food and shelter to needy individuals throughout the U.S.
