Programs

              

NAAF conducts programs focusing on research, support and public awareness. NAAF-funded research develops knowledge of understanding hair biology, genetics, immunology, autoimmunity, signaling, and triggers, establishing and utilizing models in the process and undertaking clinical studies. The organization educates people and policymakers about the disease alopecia areata and its effects on patients and their families through local and national events and medical exhibits. NAAF has programs to help people live with this disease on a daily basis. NAAF sends information packets, brochures, newsletters, videos, DVDs, and school packs to the public each year. The organization also has an Ascot Fund that provides financial grants to obtain hairpieces to men, women and children. NAAF also has an international support network, and an informational website, which includes monitored and confidential message boards, and a penpal/cyberpal program available to adults and children. Additionally, NAAF holds an annual conference for adults, and concurrently runs a children’s alopecia areata camp for kids.
