Programs

HI's primary focus is to encourage and envision leaders in the organization's affiliated pregnancy help centers, maternity homes, nonprofit adoption agencies, pregnancy help medical clinics and abortion recovery programs. The organization provides resources to help individuals lead these organizations. HI offers training for board members and directors that promote responsibility and accountability throughout the organization. HI also has resources available for staff and volunteer training. Additionally, HI offers programs such as Sexual Integrity and H.E.A.R.T. that are designed to serve women or find healing for those women suffering from an abortion choice or from the after-effects of abortion. The organization estimates that 2,000 abortions a week are prevented through HI’s network of more than 1,000 affiliates offering alternatives to abortion across the United States and around the world. HI offers opportunities for its affiliates to network with, and to be trained by, other leaders engaged in life-affirming work through its annual national conference, New Director Oasis, and the Heartbeat International Institute for Center Effectiveness. The organization also works with other national pregnancy service organizations to promote unity and has aided in creating standards for pregnancy help service providers around the world. The mutually agreed upon “Our Commitment of Care and Competence” is an example of this effort. The charity reports that the Option Line® contact center (800-395-HELP & OptionLine.org) receives more than 250,000 contacts a year and connects those in need with life-affirming service providers in the U.S. and Canada.
