Programs

              

Habitat provides administrative, financial, organizational, and technical support to help affiliates in all 50 states meet the need for the construction of low-income, affordable housing in their communities. Habitat reports that it assists international affiliates, located in nearly 90 countries, predominantly in the developing world, in the construction of affordable housing. The organization reports that it has sheltered more than 1.75 million people by building, rehabilitating and repairing more than 350,000 houses worldwide since its founding in 1976.

Habitat reports that it is providing shelter kits that give families tools to repair their houses and to build temporary shelters. The organization is also providing transitional shelters made of wood and other materials that are more permanent and can be upgraded into permanent shelters. Finally, Habitat reports that it is constructing "core" houses that are permanent and earthquake and hurricane-resistant by design and can be expanded over time by families in Haiti.
