Programs

The Foundation developed the concept of pediatric retreat facilities. It has opened 8 retreat facilities since 2000 in Maryland and it is scheduled to open an additional facility in Hendersonville, North Carolina in late 2010. Furthermore, the Foundation reports that it encourages families to use its retreat facilities on an ongoing basis, free of charge, to renew themselves mentally and physically while spending quality time together. The organization also reports that virtually every week of the year, the children in its programs in the U.S and Canada participate in its “hands-on adventure” program which is a partnership program between the Foundation and industries that allows children to focus on the future rather than the stressful routine of hospital visits. Through this program, families can participate in activities such as spending the day at the racecar track as honorary pit crewmembers, meeting professional bull riders at the rodeo or being guests on the sets of movies.

For the year ended December 31, 2009, the Foundation's program expenses were:

Children's housing 1,091,357
Hands-on adventures 214,972
Total Program Expenses: $1,306,329
