American Leprosy Missions (ALM) meets the 20 Standards for Charity Accountability.

ALM covers costs for treating leprosy in countries in Africa, Asia, and South America that have the highest rates of prevalence for the disease. ALM also funds reconstructive, cosmetic, and other surgical procedures to alleviate the damage from leprosy to the body, provides physical therapy rehabilitation programs, and offers patients help in starting businesses and learning job skills, supplying vocational training in areas such as carpentry or sewing. In addition to research grants aimed at improving the screening and assessment of patients, ALM is funding efforts that it hopes will lead to development of a leprosy vaccine. At ALM supported hospitals, health workers receive training in recognizing and treating leprosy. ALM also sponsors broadcasts and produces materials ranging from books and brochures to posters for health clinics that are designed to teach recognition of early warning signs as well as reduce the fear and stigma associated with leprosy. In response to a steep rise in incidences over the past decade, ALM also is carrying out a campaign against Buruli ulcer (a flesh-destroying bacterium closely related to leprosy) in Cote D'Ivoire and Ghana..
