Programs

              

JDC provides aid to Jewish communities in Israel, the former Soviet Union, and Argentina, as well as small groups of Jews scattered around the world in poverty, targeted by anti-Semitism, or caught in war or natural disasters. JDC provides funding for Jewish community centers, group homes for the elderly, and day care facilities. Medicines, equipment, and supplies are distributed to hospitals, clinics, and local health care institutions. JDC also sponsors family retreats, summer camps, after school programs, and early childhood services initiatives. Along with career counseling and help in job placement, employment and business development centers established by JDC offer training in marketable skills and resume writing to Jews from disadvantaged circumstances and backgrounds. JDC is also working to create and run training programs for senior professionals and policymakers in the public and non-profit sector. These programs are aimed to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Israel’s social service infrastructure which can lead to an improved quality of life for Israelis. Furthermore, JDC provides services such as meals on wheels and food packages, day centers, homecare and medical equipment to elderly Jews many of whom are Holocaust survivors.

Haiti Earthquake Relief Activities

              

Through JDC’s partnerships in Haiti, the organization reports that it is currently providing food to over 2,000 homeless and malnourished children. It also reports providing clean drinking water to hundreds of thousands of Haitians living in crowded tent cities and makeshift shelters. Furthermore, JDC is training local builder in Haiti in anti-seismic construction techniques that they can use to rebuild homes and infrastructure.   Through its education program, JDC reports that temporary schools are giving 2,000 tent city children who have lost homes and often family members a much-needed point of stability and an opportunity to continue their studies. In addition, Israeli trauma experts are working hand in hand with Haitian leaders to help strengthen their communities' resilience in a challenging post-disaster environment.
