Programs

              

AFA's services include a national toll-free hotline staffed by licensed social workers who provide counseling, crisis response and information, immediate access to local agencies that offer direct services, bi-lingual resource material and a Web site. The organization publishes CareAdvantage, a free quarterly magazine focusing on the dementia caregiver. The Dementia Care Professionals of America division offers membership, opportunities for networking, and continuing education and training to dementia care providers. AFA also awards grants on a competitive basis to its nonprofit members for the development/enhancement of local services or to aid families in need of respite care. The organization offers scholarships through its AFA Teens program. Every November, AFA sponsors National Memory Screening Day, promoting early detection of Alzheimer's disease and related illnesses, and National Commemorative Candlelighting for remembering and honoring Americans who have been or are affected by Alzheimer's disease or related illnesses. Furthermore, AFA also advocates for sound public policy for individuals and families with efforts including membership in national coalitions, presenting at congressional briefings and letter-writing campaigns.
