Programs

ALR operates medical research programs and it has reportedly supported research that has led to the development of 9 therapeutic agents out of approximately a dozen currently in the clinical pipeline. In 2005, ALR launched a consortium of lupus researchers, the International SLE Genetics (SLEGEN) Consortium, to find the genes responsible for lupus. ALR also encourages cross-sector and cross-discipline partnerships to foster an innovative research environment by funding collaborative meetings where researchers are encouraged to exchange ideas. In addition, ALR has a public policy program with the intent to increase federal funding for lupus research. The main goals of this ALR program are to educate members of Congress and the Administration about the importance of funding lupus research, to increase federal funding for lupus research, and to secure additional funding for lupus research through key federal agencies.
