Programs

NTAF helps patients facing transplantation and living with catastrophic injury pay for critical health care by helping families and volunteers mobilize their local communities to raise funds for patients’ uninsured medical expenses through ongoing grassroots fundraising support. NTAF teaches volunteers how to organize, launch and sustain a successful fundraising campaign and serves as the fiscal administrator for funds raised so they are tax-deductible and do not count as income. NTAF works in close partnership with transplant centers, rehabilitation hospitals and experimental treatment facilities, collaborating to help patients access the care they need. In addition, NATF's Education program provides resources and support as well as organ donation awareness materials for community-based fundraisers. Money raised for patients is administered by NTAF in 12 regional funds. Patients apply for assistance grants which are given by NTAF based on financial need and used for uninsured medical expenses. NTAF provides financial services to patients including bill processing, contributor acknowledgment and bill payment.

For the fiscal year ended September 30, 2008, HHL's program expenses were:

Patient grants 5,522,315
Patient services 307,261
