Partners in Health (PIH) does not meet the following Standard for Charity Accountability.

Standard 4: Compensated Board Members - Not more than one or 10% (whichever is greater) directly or indirectly compensated person(s) serving as voting member(s) of the board. Compensated members shall not serve as the board's chair or treasurer.

PIH does not meet this Standard because:

  • Two (2) members out of the 14 member board of directors (14%) are paid staff.
  • The paid chief executive officer also serves as the chair of the board of directors.
Partners in Health (PIH) meets the remaining 19 Standards for Charity Accountability.

Programs

              

PIH's programs focus on five fundamental principles: providing access to primary health care, giving free access to health care and education to the poor, basing PIH's work in community partnerships, addressing basic social and economic needs, and serving the poor through the public sector. The organization works in Haiti, Peru, Russia, the US, Rwanda, Malawi, Lesotho, Guatemala, Mexico, and Kazakhstan.
